Guidelines for Abstract Submission

We are looking forward to receiving your abstract for the 9th European Conference of Tropical Ecology under the theme of “Species – Ecosystems – People”. Submit your abstract

Here are some general guidelines for abstract submission:

[Guidelines as pdf]

Title: up to 100 characters

Authors: Please list names, affiliations and email addresses of all collaborators who contributed to this research. The first author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission. You need to indicate the person who will be presenting the abstract, which is usually the first author. The presenter has to attend the conference and needs to register by 11 December 2025.

Abstract text: max. 1,500 characters

The abstract summarises the scientific study that you aim to present at the conference. Abstracts previously presented elsewhere will not be accepted. Ideally, the abstract consists of up to three introductory sentences followed by the research objectives and a brief description of the methods. Thereafter, the most important results are described in a concise way. Some key figures or specific details can be included. The abstract usually ends with a brief take-home message and may include an outlook or future perspective. If your abstract is accepted, it will appear in the conference programme and in the Book of Abstracts published by Ecotropica.

  • Please select whether your contribution is an oral presentation or poster. Overall, you may submit two abstracts as the first author, whereby one can be a presentation and one can be a poster.
  • If you need a fast decision on your abstract because of the visa application process, please tick the box “fast track”.
  • Select the appropriate thematic session for your abstract by ticking the respective box.
  • As a (PhD) student, you can run for the Merian Awards by ticking the respective box. The Merian Awards were established in 2001 to support early-career scientists by acknowledging outstanding contributions (talks and posters). For more information, see here.

Funding information (optional): If you wish, you can list the funding agency and the project or grant number.

Please note:

The abstracts will be reviewed by the session (co-)chairs as well as the scientific committee and the organisers of the European Conference of Tropical Ecology 2026. You may be required to edit your abstract prior to acceptance and/or prior to the printing of the conference programme and book of abstracts. You will be notified about abstract acceptance by 17 November 2025. If you need a fast track decision because of the visa application process, please tick the respective box (see above). The registration for presenters will close on 11 December 2025. If you have not registered in due time, your contribution will not be considered for the conference.
